| "Boardwalk Blast" Summer Event Series
All summer long 5 days a week enjoy live & DJ music, dancing, kids activities, bingo and more! Tues: Family Nite 6-8pm Bounce house, kid's activities, variety shows, story telling, arts & crafts. Wed: Cash Bingo 6-8pm, Cash prizes up to $1500. Nominal fee to play. Thurs: Live Music at Gazebo 6:30-9:30. Great local or regional bands perform at the Gazebo stage before and after the fireworks display at the Boardwalk. Friday: 6-8pm. Shaggin' is back at the Boardwalk! DJ Music and some of the best shag dancing ever. Saturday: Kid's Bingo 6-8pm Great family atmosphere. Kids can win prizes and have lots of fun! Sunday: Trop Rock DJ 6-8pm Island country & Caribbean tropical rock music. Time to relax and enjoy before the movie at the lake! All events are Free (except Bingo). | Carolina Beach Film & Fireworks Series
The town of Carolina Beach, N.C. will be hosting a "Film and Fireworks Series" this summer. The events will take place on Sundays and Thursdays beginning May 21, weather permitting. Family-friendly movies will be held at Carolina Beach Lake Park every Sunday and a fireworks display will be on the beach near the boardwalk each Thursday at 9pm, weather permitting, and a band performing from 6pm-9pm. | Pleasure Island Free Summer Concert Series
The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce hosts their Free Summer Concerts at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area located along the Cape Fear River. They are held on the second and fourth Fridays in June, July and August (weather permitting). Grab the children, bring a chair or blanket and prepare to sit back, relax and enjoy some great music from 6pm to 8 PM. This year you are allowed to bring your own food. | Canoeing with the NC Aquarium
The Aquarium offers a canoeing program that takes participants on a three-hour exploration of the Zeke's Island Estuarine Research Reserve, considered to be one of the most unusual areas of the North Carolina coasts. The trip includes an almost one mile paddle across the basin to Zeke's Island. Common animals seen while touring the salt marsh include pelicans, seagulls, egrets, herons, ibis, sea turtles, and dolphins. After arriving on the island, participants search for blue crabs, small fish, and invertebrates using crab rigs and dip nets, and also learn how to use cast and seine nets to catch fish. Throughout the journey, information on the history and maritime culture of this breathtaking area is described by the instructors. Participants should be able to swim and be capable of sustained physical exertion. The program is for ages 8 and up. Ages 8-12 must be accompanied by two adults. The fee is $25 per participant. | "Wild, Wicked, Wartime Wilmington" Lecture
Experience Wilmington as you've never seen it before! Bob Cooke, author of Wild, Wicked, Wartime Wilmington, will share stories of the wicked and wild happenings in Wilmington during the Civil War. Come early and hear Fort Fisher historian, Ray Flowers lecture on Fort Fisher during the Civil War at 10:30am and stay for Bob Cooke's talk at 1pm when he will entertain with stories of the "murder, malice and other assorted mayhem in NC's largest city during the Civil War." Book signings will follow the 1pm talk. Guided tours led by a costumed interpreter will leave the visitor center at 11am and 3pm, with small arms demonstrations at 11:45am and 3:45pm.
